Why do you charge to read a code when the parts store does it free?

A parts store reads the code. We find the cause. A P0301 tells you cylinder one is misfiring, but it doesn’t tell you whether it’s a plug, a coil, an injector, or a burnt valve. Paying for the right answer once is cheaper than buying parts until it stops.

Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?

A steady light usually means drive it in soon. A flashing light means stop driving. That’s an active misfire that can destroy a catalytic converter in short order.

Do you work on older carbureted engines?

Yes. Carburetors, distributors and points are a big part of our work.
